Elisabetta Gucci, granddaughter of the luxury brand’s founder, plans to launch a worldwide chain of hotels under her own name. This week, the company, now owned by France’s PPR SA, filed a lawsuit in Florence, Italy, against Elisabetta Gucci and her business associates. The aim is to obtain “injunctive relief to protect its rights,” according to a statement from Gucci Group to Bloomberg News.

Elisabetta, the daughter of the late Paolo Gucci who famously designed the brand’s iconic stirrup logo, is preparing to open an 87-suite hotel in Dubai’s Media World district by the year’s end. This hotel will operate under the brand EG Hotels by Elisabetta Gucci and will feature furniture designed by Elisabetta and manufactured by Formitalia. Lorens Ziller, managing director of her EG Hotels company, emphasized in a June 23 interview that Elisabetta is merely pursuing her career. He noted, “Elisabetta Gucci is doing her job. She cannot erase her name or heritage. If she has a renowned name and background, that’s beyond her control, and we are not attempting to excessively leverage it.”
