Google Maps Street View Explores Bordeaux

Dec 23, 2023

Have you ever enjoyed a fine Bordeaux wine and wished to learn more about the chateau and the family behind its production? Google has made this possible by equipping a team of videographers with cameras to venture inside selected chateaux in Bordeaux, the wine capital of France. This initiative allows wine enthusiasts and armchair travelers to see firsthand where their favorite wines are produced.

Following the same approach used in capturing the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest, and the Burj Khalifa, videographers are now documenting behind-the-scenes footage of nine chateaux. They are using backpack-mounted cameras known as the Street View Trekker, in addition to the Google Street View Car and trolleys.

The featured wineries in this project include Chateau Lafon-Rochet, Chateau de la Brede, Chateau de Malle, Chateau de Pressac, Chateau d’Agassac, Chateau Guadet, Chateau Coutet, Chateau La Conseillante, and Chateau Corbin Michotte. This initiative not only showcases the wine-making process but also brings to light the rich history and tradition of these renowned chateaux.

In addition to the chateaux, Google Street View will also be capturing images of the medieval town of Saint-Emilion, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This endeavor provides a comprehensive virtual tour of one of the most historic and picturesque areas in France.

Moreover, in a related update, Google Maps has released new photos of the tsunami-affected regions in northeastern Japan. This is part of a long-term project aimed at virtually monitoring the efforts of Japanese governments in rebuilding and revitalizing communities impacted by the 2011 disaster. The updated images offer a unique perspective on the progress and recovery efforts over the years, highlighting the resilience and dedication of the affected populations.

Through these initiatives, Google Maps Street View continues to expand its virtual tourism capabilities, allowing users to explore and appreciate diverse locations and cultural landmarks around the world. Whether it’s the majestic vineyards of Bordeaux or the historic streets of Saint-Emilion, these virtual tours provide an immersive experience that connects people to places they might never have the chance to visit in person.
