Harrods Celebrates Christmas With The Land Of Make Believe Windows

Jan 16, 2024

Christmas is not only a time for retailers to attract shoppers and boost festive sales, but also an opportunity to create captivating window displays that enchant onlookers. Last year, Harrods showcased the Christmas Express in its windows to celebrate the season. This year, the renowned department store has launched the festivities with a new theme: The Land of Make Believe. This fantasy winter tale features magical mice arriving at Harrods to assist Father Christmas in transforming the store for the holiday season. True to the theme, the store’s famous windows are adorned for the occasion.

The Land of Make Believe windows depict a winter wonderland filled with silver birch trees, ice-blue skies, snow drifts, and oversized toys brought to life by some of the store’s favorite designers, including Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and Zuhair Murad.

Brompton Road is alive with celebration, as the spectacular festive windows showcase a variety of enchanting scenes. Highlights include a jack-in-the-box by Linley and Matthew Williamson, a music box by Amy Somerville, spinning tops, teddy bears, toy soldiers dressed in custom-designed suits, opulent furniture, a dancing ballerina, and a troupe of uniformed mice dressed in Harrods’ traditional green. There’s even a Santa Claus riding his reindeers.

To support the campaign, Harrods has also produced a film that is shared on its social media platforms. The film introduces Peter Pumpernickel, the tiniest mouse in Father Christmas’s team of uniformed helpers. Despite his small size, Peter plays a crucial role when the Christmas lights on the front of the building fail. Father Christmas calls on Peter, who is small enough to fit through a hole leading to the lights outside the building. The film depicts Peter’s journey as he climbs through the hole, reaches the light bulbs, and fixes them, ensuring Harrods’ festive lights shine brightly. The story concludes with Peter and Father Christmas watching as the lights illuminate and snow falls over London.

Harrods’ dedication to creating a magical holiday experience is evident through its elaborate window displays and engaging storytelling. By blending the efforts of top designers and a charming narrative, Harrods successfully captures the spirit of Christmas and offers a visual treat that delights both shoppers and passersby alike. This year’s campaign, with its whimsical and imaginative elements, continues Harrods’ tradition of making the holiday season special and memorable for everyone who visits.
